Share your location with your Gmail and Google Talk friends

May 4, 2009

Since we launched Google Latitude a couple months ago, I've been using it among some of my friends to share where we are and what we're up to. But it hasn't been easy to share that same information with friends who don't use Latitude, even if I keep in touch with them with Gmail and Google Talk.

Today, we're making it easy to share your location with friends right from Google Apps. You can opt in to have your status message automatically display your current city, so that all your Google Talk and Gmail chat contacts can see where you are. If you don't already use Latitude, check it out and then enable Google Talk location status (beta).

Please note that this is still an experimental feature. You can always disable it by changing or clearing your status message. To turn it back on, just change your status to "loc:on" and it'll resume displaying your current city within 30 seconds.

If you have any feedback or suggestions, please visit the Mobile Forum. Also, if you have a blog or website, we have another new application which lets you publish your location to it. To read more about that app, visit Blogger Buzz.
