Google Sites has added a new "Monetize" tab in the settings area, and in case it isn't clear what that means: it's now easy to make some money with your site.

The Monetize feature, which can be enabled by site owners, makes it easy to place AdSense ads on a site's side bar or page content. If you already have an AdSense account, just enter the email address associated with your account and a PIN. If you don't have an account, you can sign up for a new AdSense account directly from your site.

Once you enable ads for your site, there are a couple ways to decide how and where ads appear. For ads in your navigation bar, you can stick with the default, or change to a different format on the "Page Layout" tab. You can also insert a wide variety of ad sizes in your page content by clicking on “Insert” and choosing “AdSense” when editing a page. It is as easy as adding a gadget.

Google automatically optimizes which ads appear based on your site's content, and you earn money when visitors view or click on these ads. You can view your earnings at any time in your AdSense account.
